Mark Edward Farias, 38, of New Bedford died Thursday, Jan 20, 2005, aboard the scalloper Legacy. Mr. Farias was the son of Guilherme Farias and Virginia Soares Rodriques, both of New Bedford.
He was happiest playing music. His favorite instuments were drums and guitar. He was part of the rock band Tuned 4 Trash. When he was not performing with the band, he played music with friends. His kindness, laughter and sense of humor will be missed.
Survivors include his parents; two sisters, Lisa Marie Smith of New Bedford and Ann Marie Dupre of Fall River; two sons, Corey Marcus Farias and Ryan Edward Farias, both of New Bedford; a brother-in-law, Phillip Dupre of Fall River; and a niece and nephew.
On January 20, 2005, Mark Edward Farias fell overboard in the fog. The Legacy was fishing about 150 miles east of Cape Cod when the accident occurred. The Coast Guard searched for 24 hours, using a jet, helicopter, and cutter. The Canadian Department of Fisheries sent two flights to search as well. Mr. Farias's body was not found.
