Captain Tollefsen was the husband of Mrs. Natalie L. Tollefsen and son of Mrs. Emily Tollefsen, 80, of Fairhaven. He had two brothers, Hans and David T. Tollefsen, both of Fairhaven, and four sisters, Mrs. Eleanor Johnson, Mrs. Ellen Thompsen and Miss Helene T. Tollefsen, all of Fairhaven, and Mrs. Marie Berg of Norway.
The Lynn was lost in a sudden storm in the Nantucket Sound shortly before 3 a.m. on January 29, 1964. The vessel was waiting out the storm off Monomoy Point when she disappeared after sending out a brief call for help. All three members of the crew--Captain Arnlief Tollefsen, Haakon Gundersen, and Thurson Chelgren--were lost.
