Joshua J. Greaves, 30 of Fairhaven died unexpectedly on April 18, 2014.
Born in New Bedford son of Heidi (Perry) Greaves of New Bedford and Bruce A Greaves of Marysville, Ohio, Joshua resided in Fairhaven for the past year, New Bedford for most of his life. He was a graduate of Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational Technical High School and attended BCC. Following BCC he observed fish for AIS.
For over 3 years, Joshua has worked as a fisherman on the Sea Watch and the Lori Ann, both out of New Bedford. He also worked as a machinist for Sapphire, Five Star and Johnson & Johnson. He also spent time working as a landscaper.
He was active with his family in raising money for ALS, he enjoyed cooking and was known for eating ketchup on everything. An avid gardner, he had a green thumb and he enjoyed recreational fishing. Joshua played the guitar and was a member of the band, Procure for over 5 years. His laugh was infectious and he will be known for beng a gentle soul.
Surviving in addition to his parents is a brother, Nicholas R. Greaves and his girlfriend Amanda Mello and her children Kaeden and Lotus of New Bedford; his grandmothers, Patricia C. Perry of New Bedford and JoAnn Greaves of Dartmouth; and several aunts, uncles and cousins. He was the grandson of the late Daniel Perry and Dr. Alan Greaves.
Joshua Greaves was last seen on a New Bedford pier, heading for the Sea Watch, when he apparently slipped, fell into the water and drowned. His body was recovered by divers later that day.
