An overcrowded dory from the schooner Ranger capsized in West Harbor, British Columbia. Captain Peter Gomes and crew members Manuel Vars, John Small, and Ferdinand Gomes Olivia drowned. Captain Antonio Rodarick of the schooner Bradley was also in the boat. He grasped the dory when he came to the surface, righted it, and rowed ashore. The bodies of Captain Gomes and one other crew member were recovered and brought to Fairhaven.
In July 1912, the Ranger sprang a leak and sank between Gay Head and Nomans Land. No one perished in the sinking.
