A native of Norway, Olaf Martenson ame to the United Statse in 1923 and was employed on fishing vessels out of New Bedford beginning in 1923. At the time of his death, he was living in Kearny, NJ.
Surviving him were his wife, Phyllis Martenson, a brother, Ludwig Martenson of New Bedford, three sisters in Norway, a nephew in Fairhaven, and a niece in Brooklyn, NY.
Early in the morning of January 6, 1950, Olaf Martenson was found slumped over on the deck of the William H. Killigrew while she was engaged in scallop dragging.
On return to port, medical exminer Dr. William Rosen said that the fisherman had suffered a heart attack while at sea.
