Born in Norway to Bertil and Dorothy Anderson, Edward J. Anderson came to the United States in 1922 and was a fisherman out of the ports of New Bedford and Nantucket until about 1953, when he moved to New Hampshire and sgned aboard Boston vessels. 

Surviving him were his widow, Ida (Olsen) Anderson, a son, Edward J. Anderson of New Bedford, a daughter, Thelma, of the Women's Army Corps, a brother, Captain Olaf Anderson, and a sister, Annie Nygaard of Boston. 

Edward J. Anderson was working as an engineer aboard the dragger Phantom out of Boston. He was reported to have died as he went from the deck to the machine room.

The cause of his death was not immediately known.
